Record a sample with the microphone

Use the built-in microphone to record your voice, hand claps, or sounds around you onto a pad.

The device's speaker is silent during recording, so you do not need to worry about your voice feeding back through it.

Before recording

  1. Stop beat and Loop playback
  2. Select the SAMPLER part
  3. Select SOUND mode
  4. Press an empty pad briefly once
  5. Check that TAP: IMPORT / HOLD: RECORD appears

P9–P12 are empty in the initial state.

Record the sound

  1. Get ready to make the sound you want to record
  2. Press and hold the empty pad you selected earlier
  3. Make the sound when the screen changes to SAMPLING / MIC INPUT
  4. Release the pad when you want to end the recording

You can record up to 20 seconds. Start with a short sound of around one second, such as a clap or a spoken "hey," to make the result easier to check.

About sample capacity and shared memory

Tip

It is fine to pause briefly between pressing the pad and making a sound. Silence is automatically removed after recording.

Wait for automatic processing

When you release the pad, the following steps run automatically.

  1. End the recording
  2. Trim unwanted audio from the beginning and end
  3. Adjust the volume
  4. Analyze the sound
  5. Save the sample

Messages such as FINALIZING, TRIMMING, NORMALIZING, ANALYZING, and SAVING appear during processing. Wait for the process to finish.

The process is complete when SAMPLE SAVED appears.

Listen to your recorded sound

Press the recorded pad briefly once. A Preview of the recorded sound plays.

If recording fails

Message What to check
RECORDING TOO SHORT Hold the pad a little longer to record
NO AUDIO DETECTED Move a little closer to the microphone and try again with a clear sound
NOT ENOUGH SAMPLE SPACE Delete unnecessary samples or try a shorter sound
SAMPLE SAVE FAILED Check free memory and the SD card, remove unnecessary samples, then try again

Warning

Do not turn off the power or remove the SD card while the recording is being processed or while SAVING is displayed.
