Advanced sample operations

This page explains settings that change how samples play, as well as Move, Copy, Mix, and Delete operations between pads. Try the basic Start / End, Volume, and Pitch settings first to make these features easier to understand.

Sample editing basics

Change how a sample plays

Adjust these settings on the sample editing screen.

Hold

P5 Hold makes the sound play only while you hold the pad.

  • OFF: Even a short press plays the sample through to the end
  • ON: The sound stops when you release the pad

This is useful when playing sustained voices or instrument sounds.

Repeat

P6 Repeat repeats the sample. Use the lower dial to select the repeat method.

Setting Behavior
None No repetition
Whole Sample Continuously repeat the section from Start to End
8 / 4 / 2 / 1 / 0.5 Repeat the sample according to the Loop Grid

Whole Sample does not sync to the beat. A Grid setting retriggers the sample at the tempo of the beat or Rec Loop.

Reverse

Turning P7 Reverse ON plays the section defined by Start / End backwards. Use it to give a voice or cymbal a different character.

Choke

Among samples with P2 Choke ON, triggering a new sound stops the previous one. This is useful for stopping an open HiHat with a closed HiHat or switching between long phrases without overlapping them.

Move a sample to another pad

  1. In SAMPLER + SOUND, press the source pad once to check the sound
  2. Press the same pad again and keep holding it
  3. Press an empty destination pad
  4. Release the source pad

Selecting an empty pad moves the sample there. If a performance has already been recorded into Rec, the corresponding pad events also move to the destination.

Leave a Copy after a Move

Immediately after a Move to an empty pad, briefly press the destination pad again while still holding the source pad to leave a Copy of the same sample at its original position. Do this while the screen shows TAP TARGET AGAIN: COPY.

Mix two samples

  1. In SAMPLER + SOUND, select the source pad
  2. Press the same pad again and keep holding it
  3. Press another pad that already contains a sample
  4. Wait until MIXING disappears

The two samples are combined into one sound on the destination pad. Save any important Kit first so you can restore it if needed.

Delete a sample

There are two methods.

  • Press the P4 trash icon twice on the sample editing screen
  • In SAMPLER + SOUND, hold Fn3 while selecting the target pad, then confirm the deletion

Delete also removes the sample's Synth, Repeat, Choke, and other settings. The original saved WAV / MP3 file is not deleted.

Warning

Move, Mix, and Delete change pad contents. Save important setups as a sample kit or Project before using these operations.
