Record your pad performance with Rec

In REC mode, the timing of your pad presses is recorded so you can repeat the same performance as a Loop.

Start by recording just two sampler sounds with Rec while the beat plays.

1. Prepare a beat

If you have not chosen a beat yet, select one of the built-in Patterns.

Choose a beat

2. Set SAMPLER to REC mode

  1. Select the SAMPLER part
  2. Press REC among the four black mode buttons
  3. If the beat is stopped, press Fn1

The performance display area changes to show the positions recorded with Rec.

3. Record your pad performance

  1. Listen to one cycle of the beat
  2. Press a pad you like once
  3. On the next cycle, add another sound at a different position
  4. Listen to the next cycle without pressing anything

If the same sounds play without you pressing the pads, Rec has recorded your performance. Marks for each pad on the screen show the recorded positions.

4. Use Undo if you make a mistake

To undo the most recent Rec, press Fn3 briefly, then release it.

Undo history is managed separately for each part. When you switch to another part, the Undo history retained for the part you leave is discarded.

Warning

Holding Fn3 erases all performances recorded with Rec in the current part. Do not confuse this with a brief press for Undo.

Erase just one pad's Rec

In REC mode, hold Fn3 and press the pad you want to erase. This deletes only that pad's Rec.

This individual deletion cannot be undone. Check the target pad before proceeding.

Temporarily mute a recorded performance

  • Press Fn2 briefly: Mute / Unmute the current part's Rec
  • Hold Fn2 and press a pad: Mute / Unmute only that pad's Rec

Live pad playing is still audible while Rec is muted. You can silence the recorded performance and switch to playing live.

Layer another part

Switch parts without stopping the Loop and use the same steps to layer more sounds.

Suggested order:

  1. SAMPLER
  2. BASS
  3. MELODY
  4. CHORD

You do not need to use every part from the start. The sampler and Bass alone can be enough to make it feel like a song.

Make a Loop without a beat

If there is no beat and no Rec, recording starts at the point where you first press a pad.

  1. Play the first sound in REC mode
  2. Keep playing for as long as you want the Loop to be
  3. Press Fn1 END

The time from the first sound to END becomes the new Loop length.

Stop playback

  • Fn1: stops the Loop. Press again to play from the beginning
  • Press the upper dial: stops all sounds and the Loop
