Use external controllers

Play pads and control the device using MIDI controllers, computers, USB Keyboard, USB Gamepad or BLE MIDI devices.

Select Input Source

Choose one option under External Device → Input Source.

Option Main connection
Off Do not use external input
USB MIDI Controller Class-compliant USB MIDI keyboards and pads
USB MIDI Computer USB MIDI from a computer or tablet
USB Keyboard USB computer keyboard
BLE MIDI Bluetooth MIDI device
USB Gamepad Digital buttons and directional inputs

Some changes, such as switching to USB Host, may require a restart. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Port C MIDI and Port A expansion buttons can receive input independently of this single-choice setting.

Connect BLE MIDI

  1. Set Input Source to BLE MIDI
  2. Go to External Device → BLE MIDI Connection → Scan & Connect
  3. Select a device from the list
  4. Check Allow Connection

The connection destination is saved.

  • Change devices: use Forget Device, then Scan again
  • Unstable connection: Reset BLE Connection
  • Check status: Device Info

Choose MIDI Note behavior

Choose under External Device → MIDI Note Action.

Setting Behavior
Auto Assigned Notes control operations; unassigned Notes play sounds
Play Ignore Assign and use all Notes for playing
Control Execute assigned controls only; do not play MIDI notes

Start with Auto.

Teach controls with Input Assign

  1. Select External Device → Input Assign → Learn
  2. Press the destination control on the device
  3. When Press MIDI or EXT button appears, press the external key or button you want to assign
  4. Confirm the registration-complete message

Available destinations are the 12 pads, Fn1–Fn3, SOUND / PLAY / REC / FX and the all-stop action of pressing the upper dial.

Learn times out after about 5 seconds during the initial destination selection. Open Learn again if it times out.

Check or remove Assign mappings

  • Assign List: view mappings and remove individual entries
  • Clear All: remove all mappings

Assigning the same external input to a new destination gives the new assignment priority.

Supported inputs

  • MIDI Note / CC
  • BLE MIDI
  • USB MIDI Controller / Computer
  • USB Keyboard keys
  • USB Gamepad buttons and directional inputs
  • Port A expansion buttons, up to 32 inputs

Continuous analog-stick values from USB Gamepad are not used. Directional inputs are treated as digital buttons.
